Formula for supply voltage:

V_SUPPLY = V_LD + V_DROP + margin

Where:

  • VLD = Laser diode forward voltage
  • VDROP = Driver voltage drop (1-2V typical)
  • margin = Additional headroom (recommended ~2V)

Example:

  • Laser diode forward voltage: 5V
  • Required supply voltage: 5V + 2V = 7V (minimum)
  • Recommended: 8-9V for optimal operation
